Formal
Six months ago, I wrote a post about why I didn’t want to go to the formal. It’s a little funny to read what I wrote then, and because I know the post is a little “tl;dr” I’m going to quote myself:
Perhaps you may all read a hypocritical blog from me in six months, where I tell you how absolutely amazing the formal was, and I how I couldn’t believe I ever contemplated not going.
It might be terrible, it might not be so bad, but I won’t know unless I go, so I guess that’s what I’m doing.
Let me tell you now that the formal was neither “absolutely amazing” nor was it the disaster I had expected it to be - it was just like a normal night out, only more dressed up and with my entire year group instead of just with friends. I didn’t go with anyone, oh, except maybe Boris as a pretend-date kind of thing. The food was average and so was the music.
Alright, I won’t lie, it was quite fun. But sure, dancing, hanging out and getting dressed up is fun, but after five hours it all gets to be a bit too much. By the end of the night we were all just… mooching around waiting for the night to end.
So it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t the best night of my life. I don’t regret going but I’m not waiting around for the year 12 formal!

I know how you feel because I was like that with prom. I didn’t want to go but my boyfriend made me. It didn’t turn out to be amazing either but it wasn’t bad and I don’t regret going.

I didn’t go to my Year 12 formal. I sincerely regret it - since I was planning to come out to my entire year on that night, but oh well. I won’t say don’t go to it, though! Your formal sounded like mine did … hee. Bring on Year 12! … For Tracey. Yes. Ack, now I feel old.

aww, you look so pretty! yeah, I know how you feel…it’s fun, but not like, “OMG, best moment of my life!” seriously…best moments need to be..well, better. And they are usually kinda long; my friends and I always came an hour late (had dinner elsewhere first) and left 30 min early (avoid crowded parking lot). Thinking back to prom…I didn’t eat as much as I should have…they had ice cream and BIG cookies…like the size of your outstretched hand.

This post reminded me of my prom. Didn’t want to go but was forced to go because I couldn’t graduate if I didn’t go to the prom. You seem to had more fun then I did though. Couldn’t dance in the heals. You guys look cute.

Glad you had a good time! My Year 10 formal was blah, and I skipped my Year 11 semi-formal, and had my Year 12 formal a few days ago. It was…anticlimatic — I’m not big on loud music, and dancing. But I’m glad I went so I can’t regret it and all that sort of thing.

And that’s how prom’s are meant to be :) You don’t really want to go, but all you’re friends are going, plus you don’t want to miss out. So you go, you have a bit of fun, and at the end of the night you’re just glad you went to say that you went and had a good time. Or is that just me? :-P

Not that I’ve ever been to prom or anything, but the fact that so many people especially in America think it’s the most important day in a high schooler’s life is kind of stupid. I’m sure it was fun, but the fuss everyone makes about it, is sort of unnecessary. I find most things in life are probably not as “beautiful and amazing” as people think them to be.
I’m glad you had fun, that’s what it should be anyway: fun.

Well at least you went and experienced it. My formal wasn’t amazing but it also wasn’t boring either (but that’s years ago so it must have been at least somewhat impressive as I can still remember it)

Jpegs say a thousand and twenty four words, but if it could be downloaded in one file, it would be “SAVE AS”. I suggest you get away with Internet Explorer though.
