My choice

I think I have a few semi-important decisions to make in the next couple of weeks. At least, I think subject selections for my HSC are pretty important. They’re confusing and I keep changing my mind about certain subjects, but I know one thing for sure: Nobody’s going to tell me what to choose. I’m making all the decisions myself, doing all the research, writing up my own pro/con lists and whatever else I think I need to do to make the right choices (and informed ones, at that) for me.

I am not going to end up unhappy for the next two years and I know I’ll be unhappy if I don’t do whatever it is I really want. Problem is, I don’t really know what that is yet. It’s a good thing that I think I have my whole life to figure it out.

Good luck with choosing! But just remember - whilst they’re important (maybe in deciding whether you like a particular area or not…) at the end of the day you can always pick something entirely different at uni and won’t be disadvantaged.

Sounds like an awful lot of work — that’s amazing.

I think, with all that research, you’ll definately have the best decision in the end. But good luck all the same.

Good luck! I think what helped me pick my HSC subjects was about doing the subjects I *enjoyed learning* about. I picked all sciences because I enjoyed science. I weren’t able to do biology anyway (not enough classes) and I was put into legal studies instead and I found I really enjoyed that, and that definitely influenced me into picking law as my uni degree. But try not to be influenced by what other people say you should be taking as long as you LIKE the subject.

Also you only need 10 units to get you through right? What I did was pick more than I needed (I picked 12) but dropped the ones that I felt would just pull me back (I dropped extension 2 English as I didn’t have a clear project idea by January of Year 12). And you’re right, no one can make the decision for you! It’s going to be tough, but if you like learning, it should all turn out to be okay. Good luck!

Ah, I remmeber choosing mine! But don’t stress over it too much, ’cause even once it all starts, you can still change your subjects around for the first term, no questions I asked — or we could at my school, and I’m pretty sure it’s some universal thing. :) But I have to agree — choosing the subjects I want to do, and enjoy makes everything so much more tolerable when the exams/HSC-crammage comes round. I hated Biology even when I chose it, but I had no choice ’cause the subject I wanted to do, Geography, clashed with my Visual Arts. And now I resent the subject, even though I realize I couldn’t do anything about it.

    Good luck with it!

I’m feeling the same way as you are about my life. I want to go to everyone I know for the answers when I very well know that they don’t have them.

Good luck with whatever you choose. I think you’ll feel a lot better once you’ve actually made your decision even if you still just a little bit unsure.

Good for you, being proactive and making informed decisions. You’ve still got awhile to figure out what you want to do with your life, so I’d say pick classes that genuinely interest you so you can explore your horizons and really figure out what you have a passion for in life.

You know you want to take up Left Hand Thong Throwing as a course. Srsly.

Good luck, choosing can be difficult. I recently had to pick my courses for my first semester of college, and I had such a hard time narrowing down my interests. There will be time, though. It just feels like whenever I’m faced with decisions like these, I’m plotting out the rest of my life! It’s frustrating.

Good luck picking. I’m probably the worst decision maker in the world, so I’ll probably have an extremely hard time with my choice. I don’t know what I want to do with my life either. I’m debating on being a psychologist, or an actor (heh…).

On the bright side, you can change your major any time at your university; well, that’s how the Californian schools work.

I agree with you, no-one should ever told you what to choose!
And take your time on decisions like this :)

You know you don’t really have your whole life to figure it out. I mean, by the time you are over… say… 50, no one will want to employ you that much. By the time you’re 60, just give up. You’re almost dead anyway.

I dunno about HSC but when I did what I assume is the equivalent I chose things that I enjoy rather than those specific to the industry I wanted to go into.

Good luck, decisions like that should be made by you and not anybody else. After all it’s about what you want to do and not your family or friends. I wish more people were thinking the same way, too often you see people making certain choices because their friends chose the same thing, or because their family suggested / forced them to do it.

Good luck! It’s always good to consider what others have to suggest but at the end of the day, it’s YOUR life so you should make your own decisions :)

Good to know you’re making your decisions by yourself =) in that way the pressure kind of lessens. But still right? Good luck with everything! :D

I applaud you for going for what YOU want! It’s not gonna be easy (especially if your parents aren’t on the same page), but it’s sure worth it!

    *prods to update*
It’s really good you’re doing stuff YOU want to do, btw :D

Good with your choice. That was my problem as well when I was in school. Trying to decide on a career that I KNOW I wouldn’t become bored with that wills till make me good $$$$$.
