The O.C.
I stopped watching the show after the first season, because season two just sucked. Flat out sucked. And then so did season three. And four. And that’s… You know, all the seasons there are. But the finale was on tonight. So I watched most of the last episode and… And… Well… I cried.
Yes, I cried over the end TV show that I never watched much after the first 20 or so episodes. I cried over a show that my friend and I refer to as “the Friends of the 00s”. Sure, it wasn’t as funny as Friends, didn’t last as long and was suckier than Friends, but how many people of my generation haven’t seen an episode of the O.C.? (Actually, don’t answer that question.) It really was a popular show, despite its misrepresentation of people in Orange County, amazing amount of stranglings, shootings, marriages, drug overdoses, boyfriends, girlfriends… Whatever. It was popular. It was good for a while. Maybe it was so popular because it was so unrealistic (at least that’s what I think).
(Actually now that I think about it, it’s more like Party of Five or Melrose Place or 90210. Not Friends. I mean… Sheesh!)
How many times did I go to school on a Wednesday morning to hear things like “OH MY GOD, MARISSA’S DEAD!” or “Seth is so much hotter than Ryan,” or “Kaitlin is such a slut!”? Four years of it! Four years of mind numbing grossly unrealistic television and I cried over it! Although, I really did enjoy it when it didn’t suck. I was watching the flashbacks of season one during the finale and thinking “Ohhh… I remember when it was good.” Then Ryan saw that kid… And I cried.
Basically, the point of this is: The O.C. was good. Then it sucked. Then it got cancelled. And then I cried (have I mentioned that?!?!)
Anyway, crying aside, what television show is going to ruin the minds of my fellow teenagers now?!

Um, I never watched it.

They’ll think of something, they always do.
I watched the pilot episode, thought it was crap and forgot it existed. I was more interested in the demise of Charmed and the gift of Veronica Mars.

Amanda, you haven’t lived! People didn’t watch it because it was unrealistic, they watched it because Adam Brody was in there (well when it started to suck anyway). At least… I did.

I watched the first season, too and then I stopped. It was fun to watch, entertaining, but just like you said, it started to suck. That one time I saw a trailer for season 4 I think and I thought it looked rather intersting but I wouldn’t watch a whole season, I’d rather see the exciting bits cut together in a 1 hour episode ;)

I’ve never seen it either. Something about it, instantly from the beginning, turned me off about it. Honestly, I never watched any of those really popular cult-like “teen” shows… like Dawson’s Creek, and what else, I don’t know.
I think this is how I’ll be with Lost.

hahahahahaha
But aside from that :P I cried when Buffy killed Angel, so don’t worry you’re not alone.
Come to think of it though, I never really watched the OC.

You actually *started* watching the OC !!!! *shock*

Gosh. The O.C. I started watching the first season when the second season was already halfway through, and I remember when I started to like it. Ryan was getting dressed for one of the thousand parties in the series when I thought to myself “Man, I wish I looked good in a suit.” Later on- “Woah, more tuxedoes.” When season 3 began (and having ‘legally downloaded the entire second season) I started watching it on TV just so I could have some kind of shedule-thingy. “OMG I love that show!!1 I never miss an episode!!” I used to hear. I wanted to be able to say that. (Yeah, I forgot to turn it on a third of the time.)
After Marissa died I got kind of pissed though. Ryan and Marissa were pretty much the basis of The O.C, and then she just went *poof*. The reason I got pissed was because it wasn’t even really a part of the ’storyline’, Mischa Barton simply said she wanted out, so the writers killed her. What’s more though, I reckon the series should’ve just ended there. Pretty much throughout the whole thing they always went on about “the fantastic four,” stressing how important they were for the plot of the O.C. “Oh hey, Taylor’s single, guess we’ll just have to stick her with Ryan now that Marissa isn’t in the shot.”
That’s like writting a novel and saying “Oh dinner’s ready. I can’t be bothered finishing this off cleanly so let’s just um…okay he can die, then I’ll write a half-arsed sequel and have the girl go out with… his father. Yeah, why not. I’m so smart.”
On the other hand though, the season 4 trailer had Running Up That Hill as the soundtrack which was cool.

*sniff* It has so much prejudice against it. It’s meant to be unrealistic. It’s full of hot, good-looking, actors and actresses. There isn’t any purpose.
- waves O.C flag -

Although, being hot didn’t necessarily make them good actors!

I never actually got into it. I was busy with One Tree Hill, a show that people say is scarily similar. I’m still in love with OTH, though. :)
And I don’t care that there’s a car accident every five seconds on that show, because they’re all different.
I did see part of an episode of the OC, but I think it was in season two, and I had no clue what was going on, so I just changed the channel after ten minutes.

Hey, ditto. I only watched Season 1 and stopped after that.In fact, I stopped in the late middle of Season 1 because by then, I’d already lost interest in it. =/ But I still stand by the fact that Seth IS cuter than Ryan, I mean, like duh.

I thought it was good in the beginning but after a half season it was just going downhill. But oh well, all tv-shows goes downhill after a while. Ie Lost or Desperate House…

The OC, I think, is the best example I know of actors who are too old for the part. I only ever saw the last five minutes of that episode where the guy falls off the cliff (I think I was waiting for another show to start). You know the one that was advertised constantly as really super suspenseful and all? I remember being proud that knew what happened without having had to have watched the rest of the season.
Know what should capture the hearts and minds of teenagers instead? Veronica Mars.
# Jordie, 1 year, 8 months ago.
I never watched it. The fact that there were three or four girls wearing the same “Love The O.C.” tank shirt on Year 8 camp was enough to put me off. I shall have my X Files, Law & Order: SVU and Band of Brothers, thankyouverymuch.
# marilyn, 1 year, 8 months ago.
from the commercials of it before it aired made me not want to watch it…plus the title was pretty laughable, just because I really am from Orange County and I had NEVER heard it called the O.C. until then. I think once I watched it to see what it was like…my brother and I just kept laughing at ridiculous it was :P
# Jennii, 1 year, 8 months ago.
It seems when everyone is watching a show, I’m not. But when I do get into it, nobody is. :( I recently got into the O.C…then yeah.

Season one was pure gold. Anything after that was just fodder.
I didn’t actually watch the finale, but I heard what happened, and I’m SO happy with what Ryan does in the end. Yay for full closure :D
