Photoblog: Onstage

Almost nothing beats the feeling of being onstage. This photo was taken during a performance of “Brick” by Ben Folds Five. The piano was played by the lovely Gumby, while I sang and tried my hardest not to bust the eardrums of the audience. Photograph is under the cut and was taken by Boris.

A photograph of me (Tracey) onstage on November 20, 2006.

Edit Chans, I can go one better and give you a video. No, it’s not of Brick, it’s of my second performance, with a friend, Shion (on the violin) and myself on vocals and piano. Watch “Blake Says” at YouTube.

Motion blur… :( If I’d squatted right near the stage it would’ve been better because from where I was sitting there was practically no light for the lens to focus on, and you have this little thing. But hey, whenever something turns out not as you’d hoped you just call it an ‘artistic touch’ :p Your two performances and Bovie’s gang were probably my favourite. Next year we should sing Always and Forever :D (ROFLOLZORZ!)

I think I’m starting to like Weathergirl. It loads waaay faster than Sparkle and I don’t know…it just seems less ‘cramped’. Not that I like the idea of deleting it, but oh well. Bring back the purple one! When I think “BGS” I think purple. Purploi, poipoi (in French pronounciation), poo-pool. Hehehehe.

That’s awesome. Especially since your greatest fear was singing too loud. I guess you’re comfortable on stage.

I’m still not, even if it’s an ensemble.

I’ve actually sung a solo on stage before (which was like climbing Mt. Everest, but then falling down just before reaching the summit); it was so nerve-wrecking. I will never ever do it again. Never. I was just so awkward, even though people said I did well and all. But I felt so uncomfortable.

    I’d much rather watch a performance :)

S’a very nice photo. (What kind of a word is s’a? Did I just make that up? I think I did. I am not drunk, so why am I slurring my “it’s”s and “a”s into “s’a”s? Should I allow myself to do that?)

I like performing. I’m weird like that - come speech time and I’ll shake and go red and splutter… but a stage just puts that barrier between you and the audience, almost as if they’re not there at all, which is good. My new-found performance joy is to scare audience members. I always liked watching their reactions, but they’ve never been /scared/ before :c)

Now I have a craving for doing my monologue…

Anyway, my eardrums are still intact, so good performance.

    Wow…..

I’m not very musically inclined. At all.

Too bad the photo is blurry..

I couldn’t carry a tune if my life depended on it so I would never go on stage and make an audience listen to my (squeaky) voice ;).

Could you not have recorded the song for us all to hear? I’m curious.

Failure to record song, also of my fault…

Boris - I can extract the audio from the video of Blake Says, but since you didn’t record Brick, can’t do that.

Chans - I performed two songs on the night, and one (”Blake Says” by Amanda Palmer) was recorded, so if you’d like, I’ll extract the audio and post it up!

This makes me miss my taking piano lessons. I like that photo, by the way, even if it’s blurry.

Yeah, that’s what I meant. I was just planning on going *snappetty snap* for Brick. Failure to do so made me choose to record Blake Says afterwards. Or wait, you told me to do that I think. And yeah, it is blurry, but I just realised that it wasn’t just a shaky camera or something. More on the camera not having anything to focus on, that caused the camera’s shutter speed to go all *pyaAAAarrrrph*. So if you look closer in the photo you actually have two faces there :D I think I obsess over photographs too much…

Awesome, two heads! Just another talent you had on display that night Tracey.

Can’t read music notes to save my life! :P I’m musically challenged X_X, at least I see someone who can’t. Must have been an awesome night, yeah ;)
