An Australian accent?
In response to part of Shawna’s post:
I almost wish it was possible to specify audio versions of everything: headers, paragraphs, images, links, etc. It would be very cool, for instance, to go to Tracey’s website and hear her (non-)Australian accent. Unfortunately, I don’t think the W3C will be approving any aud=”” attributes any time soon. Load time for such a thing would be a major issue. It would be awesome if it was possible, however.
Well, I’m not sure about aud="" attributes, but I do know it’s possible for you to hear my uhhh… (non-)Australian accent.
Listen to me? (Right click » Save Target As…, approx 2.0mb, 2:01) Alternatively, you can listen to the voice clip at odeo.
And you know, just to be all accessible and stuff (or you don’t want to listen to me!), here’s the transcription of the audio file:
Um, hello there, I’m Tracey, I’m the webmistress (oh I don’t like that word, I really don’t like the word webmistress) but I am… That of Blondie. Gumby. Sushi. and ummmm, I actually don’t know why I’m doing this! Um, I think it’s because I was PEER PRESSURED into doing it (actually no, I put pressure on myself to do it…) because um, Shawna of um, actually I don’t know how to pronounce your domain name! Eh-ru-ahn-ta-ley, maybe? I don’t know, something like that, um, yeah, of Eruantale.net is like “Oh,” um, “How cool would it be to go to Blondie. Gumby. Sushi. and listen to Tracey’s Australian accent” To which Amanda, of the fantastic Obsidian Rhapsody (wow, name dropping!) Um, no, but, ah yeah, she replied “No, Tracey doesn’t have one!” and actually I decided, you know, why don’t I leave that up to you? I don’t know if I have one, I don’t know, I’m used to it! So if I do have one, then I wouldn’t know. I’m sort of rambling on here, so I think I’ll sort of stop now, but um, thank you for visiting, thank you for reading/listening and uhhh, thanks!
Um, just adding on to what I said before, I find it extremely, extremely strange and stupid of me that you’ve, you know, if you actually downloaded one of songs I’ve covered, you know what I sound like when I sing, you actually don’t know how I sound like when I talk normally! And I actually sound really different (that much I know) but, um, actually, no. You tell me if I sound different! You tell me how different I sound and, you know, whatever, tell me if I have an Australian accent, tell me if I sound different to when I sing, you know, tell me if I sound really weird or something. Something like that. Anything. Thank you!
How many times do I say “um” and “you know…”? Too many! There’s a bit in there that reminds me of Vicky Pollard. “Um, no, but, ah yeah.” Sheesh!
EDIT: Shawna, I hope I didn’t butcher the pronounciation of your site name!

And I maintain: You don’t have an Australian accent mate.

Oh pheeeh… Course she does. That bit at the start was just her usual “Oh think I’m so fancy with this awwwfully British(?) accont…” tone. I was streaming something on Youtube while I was streaming this and the first bit I heard before it paused due to connection over-flow was “Um… hello there. I-” to which I couldn’t help finish off your sentence with “-sound like a sh*t…” Thankfully you’re not trying to bum around with your voice after that. By the way what microphone did you buy? Seems really good quality. Otherwise you got the whole mouth-to-mic ratio thing sorted out pretty well.

Psh, you don’t have a TICK Australian accent, but you do have one ;)
And you did a pretty darn good job pronouncing my name! The only mistake you made was putting the wrong emphasis on the wrong syllable. It’s Eh-ru-AHN-ta-ley, not Eh-ru-ahn-TA-ley. I know I just pulled a Hermione moment, but the emphasis really does make a difference.
Kudos to you, though. I’ve heard people seriously butcher it before. Imagine a southern drawl, “Yeah, I just visited AY-ROO-AYN-TAIL!”

Gah, thanks spell check… THICK, not TICK. Good grief, where’s my edit button!

That made my day. Someone should make a project where a bunch of “webmasters/webmistresses” (I really don’t like that word, either–seems rather too S&M to me) from around the world record their voice just to hear how the English accent varies.

You do have a slight accent, but not like Amanda :P Now she has an Australian accent*! :P
* And I love her for it :D

Bahahahaha Trace, you sounded very funny when you started to talk. You sound kinda like Amanda (Palmer) doing an interview, except… You’re talking to yourself. Which is 1000000x crazier. Hehehehe. We love ya Trace

I do not Noemi! :P

Hmm - for some reason I always thought of it as “A-roo-an-tail” (NZ accent coming in there!) but I’m sure Shawna (who I don’t even know, so if she’s reading this she’s probably freaking out!) actually wrote out the pronunciation for it. Not sure though. I love listening to peoples voice clips…I’ve got one of my own but I had a cold when I recorded it, and people from out of NZ seem to not understand us kiwis very well! I won’t tell you who, but once I listened to the voice clip of this Canadian chick and the word “ouch” came to mind. So squeaky. Wasn’t her accent, just her voice. She was sqeaking all over the place!

Well, Rhiannon, you’re nearly there if your a in “an” is pronounced like the a in father ;) Tail is most incorrect, though understandable for any English speaker. Tah-lay, Tah-lay!
Perhaps I should make a recording of my site name to go alongside my phonetic spellings? Hehe.

YER BUT, NO BUT, YER BUT… but you see there was this WHOLE OTHA THING and… anyway, don’t listen to her ’cause everyone knows she done it with an Alsation.
GOD I LOVE THAT SHOW.

Oh my God Jordie, I can’t believe you just said that, well no, but yeah, but no, but you see, I went and recorded a voice clip and Jordie left a comment and she said that Little Britain was great I can’t believe she said that, but don’t listen to her, everyone knows she’s in love with Mario.

Whee, I love voice post thingies like that. And this is going to sound weird and I know you’ll giggle at it, but I thought you sounded so mature and grown up there! ^^ At least more mature than I thought you would. I don’t know. Never mind. ;)
I should consider amazing everyone with my stunning voice too. *cough* ROFL.

Ohhh my Gawd, I so can’t believe you just SAID THAT!
