Aligned tables!

Re: Ellie’s comment, here are a few things I think people ought to know about BGS.

  • Don’t think that I don’t care what you say, because I do. But I’m not going to change BGS for anyone but myself. It’s my personal project, it’s what I like, what I choose to do and therefore, I choose what I change, you don’t.
  • Layouts and graphics have never, and probably will never, be my strong point. I’m not sorry for making it “bland”, if it means that other dial up users will not have to wait an age for it to load, and that focus isn’t pulled away from my written content.

Like I said, I do care what you think, but I will not change for anything but myself (or a very, very, very justified reason).

And good gosh, check that I’m actually using tables (which I’m not) before you open your mouth/type. You only end up looking silly if you don’t.

One more thing: The livejournal crossposter. I’ve been thinking that some people on my flist won’t really appreciate it and not read it. So I’m going to de-activate it (after this post) and possibly make a new LJ account for it (seeing as I’m not about to go and spend money for a syndication account). Is there anyone around that would actually add this BGS LJ account anyway?

I HATE it when people think it’s their place to criticise someone else’s online personal project when most of the time we have lives to manage and far more important things to do. In 2005 I was an absolute geek, but now due to lack of time I’ve found that ‘Internet’ and all that comes under it is moving further down the priority list. Sometimes I haven’t got time to check my e-mail and say hi to my online friends, let alone make fancy website themes. In having a website you open yourself up to criticism, but that doesn’t mean the criticism is justified or that it’s not worth getting cheesed off about. If someone has the time to work on a website, that’s fab, but hell, we haven’t all got that sort of time!

Oh also, don’t get rid of the xposter, I read it. ;) Even if you don’t think tons of people are interested, a xposter is worth having… reach more people that way.

I actually really like the way your site looks! I’m not a fan of the graphic heavy/celebrity shrine/Flash/OMG blinkies! sort of look. Functional and not painful on the eyes does it for me. And text you can actually read with obvious links. So know that you have a fan. The current look is nice — soothing — and very appropriate for focusing on your actual content (which should really be the point of most any website).
